ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP
The project will run for three years, involving 9 groups in total, covering both the boroughs of Amber Valley and Erewash. Each 12 week programme incorporates citizenship within outdoor team and independent sports/activities. The programme aims to increase individual interest in local sports and recreational activities. The sessions combine the use of local facilities inc. leisure centres and groups or clubs such as Archery and riding stables. Sessions are designed to encourage informal learning through experience such as life saving skills, orienteering and healthy eating. The activities concentrate heavily on team building, conflict resolution, personal responsibility, practical skills and community involvement. Additional sessions also involve drug and alcohol information, looking at rights, responsibilities and consequences. Each group will also take part in some form of community led work such as work in local nature reserves or clearing and general maintenance of community gardens.
