the land team

Groundwork’s Land Team can offer a range of services to complement those available through our other teams. We have a wealth of experience in delivering high quality projects, for a variety of customers, to a wide range of budgets. We have a team of professionally qualified landscape architects and dedicated project officers, offering support, advice and practical solutions tailored to your needs.

The creation of cleaner, safer and greener neighbourhoods is at the heart of our work, with direct links to many strands of LAA’s and community plans including culture and sport; transport; neighbourhood renewal; the environment and housing strands of LAA’s, and with complimentary links to community plans. Through our business support projects we aim to improve the knowledge base and skill levels of small and medium enterprises, whilst improving their profitability and reducing their environmental footprint. We operate in liaison and partnership with our customers and their stakeholders, to produce site-specific design solutions which enable the physical regeneration of an open space, neighbourhood or business landscape.

Our customers include local authorities, parish councils, community groups, housing associations, private businesses, public sector and third sector organisations. We can be engaged to deliver any one or all of the following stages of work:

Feasibility: working closely with our customers, we can help to determine the feasibility of the project by developing a brief and producing a delivery plan, including budget costs.

Site Assessment: an in-depth desk-based and field-based study of the site to identify existing features, problems and opportunities which will inform the design.

Masterplanning: producing a conceptual landscape scheme considering both hard and soft landscape elements, and identifying opportunities for artistic intervention and community engagement where appropriate.

Consultation: using the masterplan as a consultation tool, we liaise with relevant stakeholders of the project to establish the needs, desires and aspirations of those who will benefit from the scheme in relation to the proposals. Often this involves engaging the skills of other professions such as artists, youth workers, community workers or education officers, to creatively engage the local community in the process.

Detail Design: producing a refined landscape scheme based on feedback collected during the consultation process. Further detailing of the scheme enables cost estimates to be produced, which can be used during planning applications and grant applications.

Planning Applications: acting as an agent for the client, we prepare drawings for and submit planning applications, offering guidance and support through the planning process.

Fundraising: identifying appropriate sources of grant funding and working with or on behalf of the client to secure funding to allow the scheme to take place.

Contract Management: getting the project on the ground! The delivery end of projects, involving the preparation of contract documents, the tendering process and management of the site works, including health and safety obligations under CDM and certification of completed works.
