FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The following questions and answers are designed to cover the most common
queries people have when considering volunteering:
Will I get paid my expenses?
GDD is keen to promote the use of public transport and is committed to
reducing travel by car. Therefore, where possible, public transport should
be used for travel to and from volunteer placements and/or activities.
All agreed project costs incurred by the volunteer will be payable in
full on provision of appropriate receipts. Travel costs to and from the
workplace will be met in part or in full at the discretion of GDD.
Can I expect to receive On-the-job Training?
All volunteers can expect to receive on the job training. GDD may also
provide relevant formal training for volunteers where a senior member
of staff deems it appropriate.
Will it lead to a paid job?
It certainly can as volunteers will be eligible to apply for any post
within GDD. Their application will be treated equably along with all other
applications, whether from external candidates or other GDD employees/volunteers.
However, already being a volunteer will not bestow any special privileges
or guarantee a job.
Are there limits to the amount of time I can volunteer?
The time commitment offered by volunteers will vary. Some may
make long-term commitments, others shorter or on a casual basis and they
may join us on a full or part-time basis.
GDD will make every attempt to match the needs of the job with the needs
of the volunteer when offering a placement.
Will I have a CRB check?
Volunteers who have committed to work with the Trust for more than 6 weeks
will be required to go through a police check. This is because Trust staff
work with the public and volunteers may come into contact with vulnerable
adults and young people during their time with the Trust.
Who do I contact if there is not a project in my area?
