The Whitworth Lake needs you!

Volunteers Wanted!

Will you help the Whitworth Trust to turn this part of Whitworth Park? …

to this.....

All welcome! On Saturday 6 th December volunteers are invited to Whitworth Park between 10am and 4pm to make a start on creating a lake where the old boating lake used to be. You don't have to come for the full day – could you give an hour or two?

Come along wearing gloves and stout shoes or boots and clothing to suit the weather. If you can stay all day, please bring your own refreshments and lunch. The work will involve moving rocks, clearing weeds and digging soft ground, so please bring your own spade if you are able to use it. Do you live near enough to bring a wheelbarrow?

This is a unique opportunity to be part of an exciting piece of history-in-the-making for the community of Darley Dale. There will be more working days throughout the winter, getting the lake floor ready for water. As the work progresses, wildlife habitat is to be created, including variation in depths for different plants and animals and using willow-weaving to make the island safe for nesting birds. We hope to have the lake fully functional by Easter 2009.

TIMBER! The pear tree and cedar trees will have to be felled. They each have trunks of about a foot in diameter to a height of 2 – 3 metres. Are you a craftsman interested in using this unusual timber?
