What a Waste is a community project created through a partnership of Erewash Borough Council and Groundwork Derby & Derbyshire, and funded by the Big Lottery's CRED programme.

It aims to work with local community groups to promote and increase the use of green waste recycling through improved green waste collection systems and greater use of home composters

The main areas of activity being pursued by the project at the moment are:

  • Composting Workshops
  • Leading public visits to green-waste recycling sites
  • Assistance to schools and other community groups in increasing their use of composting

Each of these areas is explored a little more below.

COMPOSTING WORKSHOPS

We will be running composting workshops from now and through 2007 so why not look at the programme of events and come along to one near you. Although the events are at allotments the information and help applies just as well to any size of garden. New dates for workshops will be displayed shortly.

LAND-FILL & GREEN-WASTE SITE VISITS

Ever wondered what happens to your waste after it has been collected? Wonder no longer - come on one of our visits to a land-fill site and find out.

Join us on one of a series of visits from now and throughout 2007. Full details will follow but the most likely start time is 10:00 am with an expected finish about 3:00 pm.

There will be other visits so if you can't get to this one watch this page for other chances.

SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY GROUP ACTIVITIES

If you are a member of a group or know a group who would be interested in having more and better composting facilities then contact us and we will be able to help.

We are already working with some local schools to promote composting as the following pictures show.
