wild derby sustainable
school grounds project
This project is a partnership project, funded by Derby City Council, as part of the wider WildDerby initiative. This project aims to:
- Benefit wildlife and increase the biodiversity of school grounds and the immediate community.
- Form lasting partnerships between schools, local communties and all of the partner agencies available in Derby City to support school grounds development.
- Improve awareness of the value of school grounds, public open spaces and private gardens, as valuable habitats.
- Increase awareness of the importance of school grounds as a vehicle for the delivery of citizenship programmes, education for sustainable development and mainstream curriculum delivery.
- To create and maintain a database of ideas, funding and examples of school grounds improvements in the city.
Current partners include Derby City Council, BTCV, Community Punishment Office, Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, Derwent Community Team, Friends of the Newt Pond (Da Vinci), Play and Recycling Centre, Da Vinci School and many other city schools.

WildDerby is about positive action for wildlife in Derby, for the benefit of local people. The partners in this work include Derby City Council, Derbyshire Wildlife Trust, BTCV, RSPB, Groundwork Derby & Derbyshire, Natural England and many local groups.
