Digital Media Montagedigital media projects

This page is here to showcase some of our productions. We do a great diversity of work, with a lot of different kinds of people.

We always aim to involve people in all our productions, either through training, or direct, hands-on, involvement in the production process.

All our media products are created by our own community creative media studio:

Some Kinda Mushroom: My Generation.
This was copmpleted in 2 days flat! Working with local band, Some Kinda Mushroom, from the nearby Mortimer WIlson School in Alfreton, we went into school with our mobile recording desk, recorded the band in the morning, filmed the video in the afternoon and then edited it and output it the next day. Spot the homage to The Who at the end!

Active Citizenship: Mock arrest.
This clip is from our Active Citizenship project. In this case, a group of young people on the project were subjected to a mock arrest and taken through the whole arrest procedure by local police.

Chemical Smile.
As part of our work on the annual E:Merge Festival of Music & Dance, we did a studio recording of this local rock band and, at the same time, created a rock video of one of the songs they performed - a 7 minute monster hard rock track!

Natural Selection.
This is a piece of work that we created over 9 weeks, working with the Derby City Pupil Referral Unit (PRU). A small group of young people from the PRU joined us to learn all about film making. The young people involved learnt all the skills involved in film production and "Natural Selection" was the result. Warning: this clip contains strong language.

Inside Spirit.
Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund's "Young Roots" initiative, we took a group of young people from Alvaston and Borrowash in Derby and made a heritage-based film that dealt with the contemporary subject of bullying. The screenplay, script and stopry was conceived by the young people involved and they starred in it too!

Stranger In My House.
This was our first and probably still our most poignant production - for our staff at least. This production started off as a 15 minute promo for a local drug rehabilitation group. However, it soon became much more than that and developed into a 45 minute feature that dealt with the issue of heroin withdrawal in a frank and forthright way. The films soundtrack was also written and performed by Imagination Lab staff.

Keep Glossop Tidy.
Our first foray into the far north of the county; Keep Glossop Tidy ran as a film competition for local schools and youth groups, who were invited to enter their ideas for a 5-10 minute ad to promote civic tidiness! The winners were the Hands On Youth Group, who also helped film and starred in the production.

A Better Way.
Working with our partners at Oddsocks Productions and a troupe of professional actors, we filmed a bespoke training video, based on Oddsocks' stage show, which was written to help teach lesson around the subject of customer care to a large West Midlands housing association. The final piece looked like a hybrid of "The Office" and "I'm Alan Partridge"!

Through The Mill.
This was a heritage film with a difference! Working with the Langley Mill Local History Group, we cast 3 of their members in a "Last of the Summer Wine" mode. The 3 genial gents then took the viewer on a guided tour of the history of Langley Mill.
